Pedego e-Bikes Review: Are These Bikes Any Good?

Last Updated on February 6, 2024 by Igor Karni

Easy E-Biking - Pedego electric bikes, helping to make electric biking practical and fun

Founded in 2008 in Southern California, Pedego was started by two friends, Terry Sherry and Don DiCostanzo. Much like most successful e-bike companies, it was started out of a deep love for e-bikes and a consistent drive to make them better. At the heart of it all is a strong dedication to customer service, for which the brand has been and is continually being recognized.

Its founding appeared to be set in stone for both friends who shared the said love for e-bikes. The innovative vision of one works in great synergy with the technical expertise of the other. Together, they started Pedego with the intent of improving the then-poor-quality models available in the market. It’s safe to say that the company deserves as much recognition for the remarkable growth the e-bike industry has undergone in recent years.

While the two founders are pretty hands-on with the design and manufacturing of their models, they’re actually pretty laid-back and the company as a whole has an easygoing vibe that readily shows in their models’ designs and the overall biking experience each one provides.

Pedego E-Bikes: Fun and Comfort Mix with Power to Deliver Unrivaled Quality

Pedego is a mixed bag with its current catalog that is composed of 20 models, which fall under the cruiser, city, eMTB, road, folding, junior, and hybrid categories. Their overall designs and quality of the components are top-notch, as far as the concept of superiority in e-bikes goes.

It’s one of those rare brands that we can safely say has managed to hit the sweet spot of e-bike design. Our reviews of their models would prove as much.

Pedego Boomerang E-Bike Model Line

While the new Platinum edition of the Boomerang may be naturally better specs-wise, we think the original is still great in its own right. That said, It’s a cinch to mount and dismount, and you’ll find that it abounds in the brand’s philosophy of fun the moment you take the first ride.

Easy E-Biking - Pedego Boomerang electric bike, helping to make electric biking practical and fun

The 500W motor is as powerful as it is quiet, a combination almost any e-bike rider would gladly welcome. One reason why we prefer the Platinum is that the original has a fairly low maximum riding range of only 30 miles (50 km).

This extends to 60 miles (100 km) in the former, and we think that’s a good deal for the additional $1,000 since this cruiser e-bike is very comfortable to ride, to put it mildly. The hydraulic brakes and faster-charging batteries in the Platinum aren’t to be ignored as well.

The e-bike owes most of its comfort to the traditional cruiser handlebars and the upright sitting position. There’s also the palpable lack of heft in the motor and the entire frame. It has all the desirable bells and whistles in a cruiser, namely full-length fenders, back and front LED lights, chainguard, and a rear rack.

Pedego City Commuter E-bike Model Line

This no-nonsense (not only in name but performance) e-bike line has 4 variations, making it the most extensive in the whole catalog. This fact should give you a ready hint that it’s actually one of the most sought-after city models in Pedego

Many attribute its popularity to its being a “complete package”. A lot of users have praised it for giving them everything they need for consistently enjoyable urban riding. It’s really not hard to agree with them, even if we just consider the basic City Commuter model, which was released in 2015.

Easy E-Biking - Pedego City Commuter electric bike, helping to make electric biking practical and fun

It’s already powerful enough as it is, just the right amount to make it earn its “city” label and not be demoted to your standard cruiser. You get full-length fenders and puncture-resistant with reflective sidewalls tires to complement the chain guard, sturdy kickstand, and included front and back LED lights.

Riding range from the Samsung 500W battery can reach a decent 40 miles (65 km), and the upright sitting position, comfortable saddle, and suspension seat post ensure the comfort you look for in your everyday commuting. Last but not least, you can actually hook up your device to the LCD display to charge it.

Considering the price and everything you get, it’s no wonder many people cite the City Commuter as their favorite.

Pedego Comfort Cruiser E-Bike Model Line

This is a model that pays homage to a classic design as evidenced by the cantilever design. Like the City Commuter, this model has been around for years and has acquired generally positive feedback for its comfort. That being said, this could very well fit the quintessential cruiser label.

You can immediately see this in the step-thru frame and the sizable curved handlebar, which is just as large and comfortable as the saddles. It’s another urban rider that comes with all the right accessories like the fenders and integrated rack. As far as comfort while riding goes, this is one of Pedego‘s notable works. That being said, riders love it for it delivers what you expect from it.

It may not have pedal assist options to choose from, but the speed shifter feature is not at all hard to get the hang of and can make riding fairly uncomplicated. The riding range falls below 40 miles (65 km), around 35, and that’s still adequate for regular leisurely rides. It knows there’s no need to go over the top and be flashy.

Pedego Conveyor E-Bike Model Line

The Conveyor is the brand’s higher-end commuter offering that has the right tech while assuring a remarkably smooth and quiet ride. The bike has the Brose mid-drive motor to thank for much of the natural smoothness and the generous motor assist courtesy of its maximum 90nm torque. The Shimano gears complement it well to the point that it’s hard to name a smoother riding commuter, at least, in the US market.

Easy E-Biking - Pedego Conveyor electric bike, helping to make electric biking practical and fun

The weight is kept at 55 pounds (25 kg) despite the relative thickness of the frame. The riding range tops at 45 miles (72 km), which is decent for the assured ride quality. The Tektro hydraulic brakes have few competitors in stopping power and go well with the overall above-average power of this commuter.

The tires perform well on almost any kind of smooth road. Other notable aspects include the fenders with mud flaps, integrated front, and back battery lights, and its support for numerous add-on accessories.

Pedego Element E-Bike Model Line

It’s safe to say that the Element is made for the average urban rider and packed with features that make it a good choice for everyone, women, and children included. It’s affordable yet it’s far from being average.

Easy E-Biking - Pedego Element electric bike, helping to make electric biking practical and fun

The low saddle height allows it to be labeled as a Junior city e-bike. Even so, it can still support taller riders. We like the overall stability and comfort provided by the fat tires, even though they lack any kind of puncture protection. They make up for the absence of suspension as well, and more importantly, they give the rider more flexibility to go for some light offroading.

It can guarantee as much range (45 miles to be exact, which is 72 km) as one of the more expensive offerings of the brand. It also comes with a neat, minimalistic display that has every parameter you need as well as an adjustable kickstand.

Overall, it’s a city e-bike that gives way more than what you’ll expect from a model at this price point.

Pedego Elevate eMTB Model Line

The brand may not be known for its offroad selections that well, but the Elevate actually proves Pedego should consider releasing more road, gravel, or eMTB models in the future.

This one brims with power but knows how to ensure well-balanced mountain biking. Its Shimano STePs motor is great for the purpose it’s built for, imparting support that you can count on at short notice. Weight is kept fairly average and manageable at 50 pounds (23 kg), thanks to the lightweight motor.

Easy E-Biking - Pedego Elevate electric bike, helping to make electric biking practical and fun

Riding range can go as high as 60 miles (100 km), a value that not can satisfy plenty of pro mountain electric bikers out there. We like the quick-release tires, which you can stow away in seconds after use. It’s a full suspension, so that’s a checkmark in comfort.

Lastly, Pedego didn’t skimp on the other vital components such as the powerful hydraulic brakes and high-end handlebars and pedals. Indeed, Pedego pulled no punches when they introduced their first eMTB to the market. Give the Elevate a try, and you’ll feel what we’re talking about.

Pedego Interceptor Cruiser E-bike Model Line

This is another line where the Platinum easily bests the original. That said, the original lays the groundwork for comfort and the Platinum only perfects it.

Easy E-Biking - Pedego Interceptor electric bike, helping to make electric biking practical and fun

You get more quality parts with the extra $1,000, like the hydraulic brakes and more range (up to 60 miles, 100 km). To us, the Platinum looks better overall as well, with its cantilever frame and the fittingly all-platinum finish.

The tires are Schwalbe-made and have the right puncture protection and comfort boosting. It comes with front and rear lights. It bears the trademark Pedego seal of comfort with its overall design, as evidenced by the large handlebars that encourage an upright position and the made-for-comfort saddle.

Pedego Latch Folding E-Bike Model Line

This folding e-bike notably feels like a standard-sized e-bike once unfolded to its full extent, making it a recommended option for anyone with a stockier build, but wants the perks of a folding model.

Easy E-Biking - Pedego latch folding electric bike, helping to make electric biking practical and fun

It might be heavier than most of its kind, but it’s got the Pedego trademark of generous power and abundant, helpful accessories. If you’ve given other folding e-bikes before but found them lacking in the said departments, then you should really consider this e-bike.

It’s very compact once folded, which is a real boon for its size. We also love the comfortable reach of the handlebar, besides the inclusion of full fenders,  front and back lights, and the rear rack. The 30-mile (50 km) riding range limit may seem low, but this e-bike is obviously designed for short commutes and leisurely rides, so that’s still adequate in our book.

Pedego Ridge Rider eMTB Model Line

The Ridge Rider is a front suspension eMTB that packs plenty of power from its 500W Dapu motor and plenty of nice features that will make for consistently decent off-trail riding. It’s one of those more versatile eMTBs that you wouldn’t mind using as much for the regular commute because of the rear rack bosses.

Easy E-Biking - Pedego Ridge Rider electric bike, helping to make electric biking practical and fun

We want to highlight the great torque-sensing assist feature of this e-bike because it’s always a welcome perk to have when negotiating steeper hills and inclines. It works with the throttle-only mode to actively prevent the rider from straining or even injuring his legs.

The tires are just about the right size for ensuring better handling and stability. The maximum riding range is a little on the low side at 35 miles (55 km), but if you tend to do full-day riding this should still suffice. Other noteworthy features include the smooth and bitey hydraulic disc brakes and the high-quality kickstand.

Pedego Stretch Cargo E-Bike Model Line

This seamlessly marries the inimitable Pedego cruiser design with the standard cargo e-bike concept. On the whole, though, it’s a highly original cargo e-bike that delivers the combined basic benefits of cargo and cruiser models.

You get a relatively more comfortable ride while lugging around a few groceries and supplies or even when transporting the kids to school. The low-step frame ensures effortless mounting and dismounting.

Easy E-Biking - Pedego Stretch electric bike, helping to make electric biking practical and fun

The motor doesn’t compromise on power, yet still manages to keep the weight and noise down to bearable levels for most riders. The dual battery option assures a sufficient riding range of up to 55 miles (90 km) and also lends itself to keeping the weight manageable even when at max capacity.

This one also comes with a great combo of full-length aluminum alloy fenders, back and front LED lights, and a weatherproof chain guard. The two-legged kickstand is enough to support the extra weight, while the comfortable saddle, sizable tires, and seat post suspension make sure you won’t have any discomfort when coming across bumps in the road.

Pedego Tandem Cruiser E-Bike Model Line

If you’re not already aware of what a tandem is, this is a special e-bike model designed to be ridden by two adult riders. This is basically the classic Pedego cruiser in tandem form, which is still a fairly rare presence in most e-bikes.

Easy E-Biking - Pedego Tandem electric bike, helping to make electric biking practical and fun

It’s got everything that you love from the standard Pedego cruiser, with upright handlebars, soft and wide saddles, and a rear rack. The second handlebars on the rear are noticeably positioned rather low, so it’s recommended that people on the short side should ride on it. The riding range is the standard 30 miles (50 km) found in most Pedego models.

Overall, this is an e-bike that is admittedly made for riders with a particular preference for this mode of biking and who want to enjoy Pedego-level comfort while doing so.

Pedego Trail Tracker Fat E-Bike Model Line

Off-roading couldn’t get any better with a Pedego Trail Tracker. It’s a fat e-bike made right. Anyone who wants to enjoy a more comfortable offroad experience should consider going all the way and buying the Gorilla edition because it has infinitely better cruiser-style handlebars.

Easy E-Biking - Pedego Trail Tracker electric bike, helping to make electric biking practical and fun

The fat tires overall look impressive and look and feel like they can handle any kind of rugged road conditions. They do well to help the e-bike achieve its top speed of 20mph (32 km/h) as well, besides guaranteeing a more comfortable ride. You also get the trademark combination of power and silence from the Dapu hub motor, which happens to work well with most fat tires, too.

The Gorilla edition only converts it to a cruiser/road hybrid that would perform just as stellarly as your standard cruiser and commuter. That, plus the model’s overall adaptability to most kinds of terrain makes it one of the most versatile options in this list. It doesn’t hurt that it’s a hardtail, too.

The riding range is the standard 30 miles (50 km). You also get a lot of nifty accessories like the sturdy kickstand, disc brakes, and easy-to-use LCD.

We invite you to take a closer look at the Pedego Trail Tracker fat tire electric bike model line here.

Pedego Trike E-Bike Model Line

This trike e-bike has the right stability, thanks to its heavy weight that doesn’t go overboard. It also adopts an upright handlebar design, so you get a good idea about the relative comfort you’ll feel once you give it a ride. This mix of comfort and stability is something that most trike riders yearn for, so that’s basically where most of this model’s strengths lie.

Easy E-Biking - Pedego Trike electric bike, helping to make electric biking practical and fun

The mechanical disc brakes notably have plenty of stopping power. The front-mounted battery gives it more balance.  You get the average 30 miles (50 km) of range in total, but that would obviously be impacted a lot by the added weight you put on the rear cargo. It also comes with LED lights, which earns a checkmark in safety.

What Most E-Bike Riders Think of Pedego

It’s a brand that’s held in high regard. After all, the company has an uncompromising stance on ensuring quality in components and design. Without a doubt, it’s what kept the company going for its more than a decade’s worth of operation.

We think that should tell you all you need to know about its reputation.

Lastly, many love them for their extended warranties, which tend to range between 2 to 5 years, as well as their openness to allowing people to customize their e-bikes’ colors.
