Taking short rides on an e-bike is a lot of fun. But you might want to try something more advanced, heading out for a longer ride. At first, a trip of this scope can be daunting. But, as long you prepare properly, you shouldn’t run into any major problems. Here are some of the things to keep in mind to make sure everything goes smoothly.

Check the Battery

Get Used to Longer Rides

If you want to take on some long-distance rides, you will need to build up to it. There are a few simple ways you can do this.

First, you should start riding regularly. This will let you get used to your e-bike. It’s a good idea to start building your fitness. If you aren’t confident on an e-bike, you might want to start making shorter journeys regularly.

Take the e-bike down to the local shop and back. As you get more confident, start to extend the route. It can be a good idea to incorporate the e-bike into your daily commute. This article has some tips to help you make this commute successfully.

Once you are riding frequently, it’s time to start increasing the distance that you are traveling. It’s best to do this gradually. Over the next few months, you can try adding an extra 30 minutes to the ride. It can be a good idea to keep a record of how long each ride is. This can keep you motivated as you can track your progress.

During this part of the training, you don’t want to push yourself too hard. Give yourself a long ride on the weekend. But then give yourself a few days to recover before pushing yourself again. Overtraining can increase the risk that you will injure yourself.

Find a Speed That Suits You

On a shorter ride, it’s okay to go flat-out. If you try this on a longer ride, though, you’ll quickly tire yourself out. Because of this, you’ll need to think strategically about the approach you are taking.  You don’t want to wear yourself out too early.

When you are in a higher gear, you will be able to get more power behind each stroke, despite pedaling slower. If you are going through difficult terrain, you might want to switch to a lower gear. This makes it easier to pedal, allowing you to retain your speed. If you aren’t used to using gears on a bike, this guide will talk you through the process.

When you are riding, you might want to attach an RPM machine to your bike. This will record how often your wheels turn. Ideally, you should be sticking to 90 RPM.

Think carefully about the way that you harness your e-bike’s power. You should be able to do the first third of the ride without much assistance. This will allow you to use the motor during the later stages when you will be tired. It’s also a good idea to use the motor to help you up steep hill climbs, turning it off as you are going downhill. By taking this approach, the battery will be able to last the whole trip.

Hydrate Yourself

One of the most important to make sure that you are getting the right mix of food and water. This will give your body the energy that it needs to complete the ride. Because of this, the night before the ride it’s a good idea to eat carbohydrates, like pasta.

On the day of the ride, make sure to take plenty of water with you. You don’t want to leave yourself dehydrated. This is especially important on a hot day, as you will be sweating more frequently. Usually, you should try to empty a drink bottle every hour.

You should also make sure to plan regular breaks to stop for food. Try to have snacks that will provide a natural energy source. For example, it’s a good idea to use berries, nuts, and high-carb energy bars. Try to stop every 15 minutes for food. You’ll just need a few bites of a trail mix or a snack bar.

Plan the Ride

When getting ready for any long-distance ride, it’s important to have a clear understanding of the track you are going to be riding. Know the type of terrain you’ll be facing and where you will be able to stop for a break. Look at the type of facilities along the trail. For example, is there a place for you to fill up your drink bottle?

When planning a long ride, you want to make sure that you are stopping for breaks. This gives you a chance to catch your breath. It’s also a great way to appreciate the view. It’s recommended that you break the trip into thirds. After you’ve completed a third, stop and take stock.
